What are the goals of the retreat?
We've designed the retreat to:
What do I need to do to prepare for the retreat?
Before you arrive you will need to:
Is the retreat really worth the cost?
We've purposefully designed the retreat to be well worth the investment in yourself. The measurable value includes:
The harder to measure value is the personal impact on you. What is it worth to have clarity on your life direction, a plan for how to get there and the support of others?
Across a year, the investment to attend is $250-$300/month. If you think about your spending on clothes, meals out, household goods, etc., you may be able to find the budget for an experience and a community of women that will give you infinitely more nourishment than many other things we spend our money on! If your employer offers wellness reimbursements, we encourage you to explore using it for the retreat and we encourage business owners to consider the retreat a personal development expense.
Finally, we are dedicated to assisting women who cannot commit to the full cost of the program. If that woman is you, please reach out to us at [email protected] to learn more.
I heard Miraval is a no-device resort. Can I call my family?
Miraval and we believe that disconnecting from our devices is important to help us create the mental space to reflect and dream. That said, you will have wi-fi in your room and can use your devices in your room and a few select places at the resort. We encourage you to let your friends, family and colleagues to only contact you in case of emergency so you can get the most of your time away!
I am coming by myself but would like a roommate; can you help me find one?
Yes, please let us know if you know who you want your roommate to be or if you want us to match you with one. If you prefer, you can sign up for a single room.
What do you mean by "life design" workshops?
The life design work we do at the retreat is based on two books: Design the Life You Love: A Step by Step Guide to Building a Meaningful Future by Ayse Birsel, and Designing Your Life: How to Build a Well-Lived, Joyful Life by Bill Burnett & Dave Evans. Both books use design thinking principles to help individuals proactively explore and change their lives to make them more fulfilling. We like the design thinking approach because it encourages creativity. As Birsel writes:
“Design is about identifying and working within given constraints to arrive at new and better solutions. Life, just like a design problem, is full of constraints: time, money, age, location, circumstance, etc. If you want more, you have to be creative about how to make what you need and what you want coexist.”
We've designed the retreat to:
- Help you gain clarity on what you want for the next phase of your life – what you want to achieve, but also who you want to be and how you want to feel about your life.
- Unleash our collective creativity to help you design a life where your wants and needs coexist.
- Begin to form a support community who will help you bring your designs to life.
What do I need to do to prepare for the retreat?
Before you arrive you will need to:
- Book your flights
- Complete some simple pre-work (you'll receive the pre-work materials two months before the retreat)
- Sign up for activities at Miraval (two months before). See a sample schedule here!
Is the retreat really worth the cost?
We've purposefully designed the retreat to be well worth the investment in yourself. The measurable value includes:
- Accommodations at Miraval, a world-class luxury resort
- All meals, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks - the food at Miraval is not only healthy, it is delicious - ask any of the past participants!
- Taxes and resort fees (which total 28% of the room rate)
- All gratuities (spa, bellman, cleaners, etc.)
- Transportation to and from the airport
- Credit for resort services such as spa services or special experiences (horse riding, wine tasting, etc.)
- Dedicated space for retreat participants to gather
- InvigHERate materials and pre-work
- Life design workshops and exercises at the retreat
- Closed discussion group to stay in touch with retreat participants
- Monthly facilitated peer-coaching calls with retreat participants to help with accountability, ideation and support
